Christa Hughes
“Beyond the boundless bravura, Christa sings intoxicatingly well” Sydney Morning Herald

In Beer Drinking Woman, Vaudeville Vamp Christa Hughes (La Clique, Circus Oz, Machine Gun Fellatio) has devised a mixture much like her drinks: straight up, intoxicating and eclectic. A cocktail of 1920’s bravado and the voice of a mermaid wooing sailors’ ships onto the rocks, Christa embraces her subject with wit, verve and charm.
Join her on the journey from that elegant first sip of the Speakeasy Siren through to the despair and pain of the Dive Bar Diva with the hair-of-the-dog blues. Christa’s take on the night of a booze-soaked lush is hilarious.
Accompanied by jazz pianist Leonie Cohen, Christa performs her own compositions amongst a selection from Tom Waits, Memphis Slim, J. Shelton, Frank Sinatra, the Tiger Lilies and a few surprises.
Christa’s latest album Shonky is out now through ABC Music.
“With Hughes’ dynamic stage presence and that gutsy voice, this was bloody good cabaret” Drum Media
“With that powerhouse voice the show was exactly what you want in a cabaret – bawdy, hilarious and masterful entertainment” RAW, Adelaide
