After a sell out season at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the Adelaide Fringe, Comic Strip is making its Famous Spiegeltent debut .
Curators Asher Treleaven (Melbourne International Comedy Festival Critics Choice 2010) and Gypsy Wood (“The new queen of kink”, Time Out) revive the vintage strip club era of Go-Go, burlesque and stand up.
Burlesque clubs in the 1960’s were free from puritanical anti-profanity laws and became a haven for comedians like Lenny Bruce. A place where comedians could and would say anything they dared without threat of incarceration. We don’t anticipate police busting down the door to haul artists away, because we’ll be in a tent and busting down the canvas just doesn’t have the same appeal, but you never know.
