The Opera Burlesque was formed inside The Famous Spiegeltent in 2005. Since then Ali McGregor, Dimity Shepherd and Antoinette Halloran have gone on to pervert the course of mainstream opera from within as lead performers with companies such as Opera Australia, Melbourne Opera and Opera Victoria.
As individuals they have released albums, toured the world, been regular guests on Spicks & Specks and Art Nation and mingled at the Playboy Mansion. Now they return with very special guests for one night only in the tent where it all began.
Expect luscious arias, corseted geishas and Wagnerian rock classics.
Ali is a regular performer in The Famous Spiegeltent with La Clique, Jazz Cigarette the Comedy Festival’s cult Late-Nite Variety-Nite Night. She returned to the operatic stage in 2010 playing the title role in The Merry Widow for Melbourne Opera. Antoinette is one of Australia’s most sought after sopranos most recently performing Madame Butterfly for Opera Australia. Dimity is one of this country’s finest Mezzo-sopranos most recently performing Carmen for Melbourne Opera and in Sydney Theatre Company’s Threepenny Opera.
International Burlesque Gypsy Wood will be a special guest at this much anticipated performance from Ali Mcgregor’s Opera Burlesque at The Famous Spiegel Season.
