Get to know Cash Savage
Best known for her bold voice and intoxicating stage presence, country singer Cash Savage chatted to us before her upcoming performance in The Famous Spiegeltent.
How old were you when you first began performing?
I was six when I was given my first guitar. There are photos of me busking out the front of my family house. I have no idea what I was singing or how well I was playing but I look like I’m having a blast.
What’s your favourite drink?
The drink I drink the most would have to be beer – more specifically Melbourne Bitter. I’m a simple woman with simple tastes.
Favourite place you’ve performed so far? Why?
We had the honour of playing Meredith Music Festival in December. It has always been one of my dreams - I have been a punter at Meredith 10 times. It was a [great] experience, albeit the quickest 40 minutes of my life.
Who was your favourite artist/band growing up?
I used to listen to my mum and dad’s tapes and records – they had a lot of different stuff. One of my favourites was a tape called 20 Country Hits. I used to listen to the song Big John by Jimmy Dean on repeat. I also listened to a lot Johnny Cash, Johnny Paycheck, Beatles and Neil Young.
What can the audience expect from Cash Savage in The Famous Spiegeltent?
It’s our first show back in our home town since before Christmas, and in the meantime we have played numerous gigs up and down the east coast. So I guess you can expect a very tight, well-oiled band that is probably going to be a little over-excited about playing to their hometown crowd.
Favourite restaurant in Melbourne? What do you order?
I eat out a lot more for breakfast than dinner. You would probably find me on a Saturday or Sunday having a very late breakfast at either Jellystone or Small Block in Brunswick.
What do you do before a performance?
We don’t really have much of a routine, we mostly sit back stage, drink a couple of whiskeys, and maybe play one of our band mates’ instruments. It seems these days everyone fancies themselves to be a banjo player.
If you could be anything else other than a performer, what would you be?
A designer for Lego.
Cash Savage will perform at The Famous Spiegeltent on Monday 19 March at 7pm.
